code-mate-gemini

Lets your agent analyze code and perform programming tasks. It's useful for delegating coding work or comparing results.

What it does

This assistant helps you analyze code projects and perform programming tasks using Gemini CLI. It can check your code, compare results, and run specific commands for you.

When to use it

  • ✓When you want the AI to analyze a specific module of your project.
  • ✓When you need to compare the result of a coding task between different tools.
  • ✓When you want the AI to execute a Gemini CLI command for you.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Analyze the 'user_auth' module in my project and tell me if there are any issues.”

How it works

It sets up your project environment, checks if the Gemini tool is installed, and runs a specific command with your instructions. Then, it shows you the result.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

npx skills add CherryHQ/cherry-studio --skill code-mate-gemini

Or download just the file:

curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CherryHQ/cherry-studio/main/resources/code-cli-skills/code-mate-gemini/SKILL.md -o SKILL.md

Gemini CLI

Run

  1. Set the Bash working directory to the exact project the user named and set a finite timeout, normally 10 minutes.
  2. Check availability with command -v gemini. If it is missing, stop and ask the user to install Gemini CLI in Code Mate.
  3. Run one task and exit:
gemini -p "<prompt>" --output-format json

Pass the prompt as one quoted argument. Parse the JSON result and treat a JSON error or nonzero exit as failure. Never start interactive Gemini or an authentication flow.

Authentication And Permissions

If Gemini reports missing authentication, project, or provider configuration, stop and ask the user to finish Gemini setup in Code Mate. Never request, read, print, or copy credentials.

Keep headless approval policy at its read-only default. Only when the user explicitly requests workspace changes may the command use the narrowest policy and tool permissions needed; do not enable unrestricted approval.

Example: ask Gemini to review a module without editing, run the command above from the repository, and summarize the parsed response and any reported error.

FAQ

What is Gemini CLI?

It's a command-line tool that allows you to interact with AI models like Gemini for programming tasks.

Do I need to install anything?

Yes, you need to have Gemini CLI installed in your environment. The assistant will let you know if it's missing.

Can the AI make changes to my code?

Generally, no. It's set up to only analyze and report unless you explicitly ask for changes with specific permissions.
