analyzing-cloud-storage-access-patterns
Helps your agent find unusual access in cloud storage like AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure. It looks for large downloads outside of work hours, access from new locations, or many API calls. It's useful for investigating if data was stolen from the cloud.
What it does
This tool helps find unusual activity in your cloud storage (like AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, or Azure Blob Storage). It looks for large downloads outside business hours, access from new locations, or usage spikes.
When to use it
- ✓When you suspect data might have been stolen from the cloud.
- ✓To create automatic alerts for strange activity.
- ✓When investigating a cloud security issue.
Example of what to ask your AI
“Analyze access to my S3 bucket 'important-data' for the last 24 hours and tell me if anything looks suspicious.”

How it works
The tool compares your cloud storage's normal usage with its current usage. It looks for patterns that deviate from the norm, like many downloads at once or access during unusual times.
Installation
Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

Analyzing Cloud Storage Access Patterns
When to Use
- When investigating security incidents that require analyzing cloud storage access patterns
- When building detection rules or threat hunting queries for this domain
- When SOC analysts need structured procedures for this analysis type
- When validating security monitoring coverage for related attack techniques
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with cloud security concepts and tools
- Access to a test or lab environment for safe execution
- Python 3.8+ with required dependencies installed
- Appropriate authorization for any testing activities
Instructions
- Install dependencies:
pip install boto3 requests - Query CloudTrail for S3 Data Events using AWS CLI or boto3.
- Build access baselines: hourly request volume, per-user object counts, source IP history.
- Detect anomalies:
- After-hours access (outside 8am-6pm local time)
- Bulk downloads: >100 GetObject calls from single principal in 1 hour
- New source IPs not seen in the prior 30 days
- ListBucket enumeration spikes (reconnaissance indicator)
- Generate prioritized findings report.
python scripts/agent.py --bucket my-sensitive-data --hours-back 24 --output s3_access_report.json
Examples
CloudTrail S3 Data Event
{"eventName": "GetObject", "requestParameters": {"bucketName": "sensitive-data", "key": "financials/q4.xlsx"},
"sourceIPAddress": "203.0.113.50", "userIdentity": {"arn": "arn:aws:iam::123456789012:user/analyst"}}
FAQ
Which cloud services does it analyze?
It analyzes AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), and Azure Blob Storage.
What are 'anomalies'?
Anomalies are activities that deviate from normal behavior, such as a large volume of downloads outside of working hours or access coming from a previously unseen IP address.
Do I need to be a cloud expert to use it?
It's helpful to have basic cloud security knowledge, but the tool is designed to simplify the analysis.
Details
Original description by the author
Detect abnormal access in AWS S3, GCS, and Azure Blob Storage by analyzing CloudTrail Data Events, GCS audit logs, and Azure Storage Analytics for after-hours bulk downloads, new-IP access, and API-call spikes (e.g. GetObject) via statistical baselines and time-series anomaly detection. Use when investigating suspected cloud data exfiltration or building related detection rules.
