hunting-for-spearphishing-indicators

Has your agent investigate and detect targeted email attacks, looking for signs of phishing campaigns across different data sources.

What it does

This tool helps search for signs of targeted email attacks (spearphishing) within your email logs, computer data, and network traffic. It analyzes this information to find suspicious activity.

When to use it

  • ✓When you want to actively search for email attacks.
  • ✓If you've been warned about ongoing attack campaigns.
  • ✓During a security incident investigation to understand the attack's scope.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Hunt for targeted phishing attempts using malicious attachments in the last 7 days.”

How it works

It works by comparing data from your systems (emails, computers, network) against known attack patterns. If it finds anything that looks like an attack, it flags it.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill hunting-for-spearphishing-indicators

Hunting For Spearphishing Indicators

When to Use

  • When proactively hunting for indicators of hunting for spearphishing indicators in the environment
  • After threat intelligence indicates active campaigns using these techniques
  • During incident response to scope compromise related to these techniques
  • When EDR or SIEM alerts trigger on related indicators
  • During periodic security assessments and purple team exercises

Prerequisites

  • EDR platform with process and network telemetry (CrowdStrike, MDE, SentinelOne)
  • SIEM with relevant log data ingested (Splunk, Elastic, Sentinel)
  • Sysmon deployed with comprehensive configuration
  • Windows Security Event Log forwarding enabled
  • Threat intelligence feeds for IOC correlation

Workflow

  1. Formulate Hypothesis: Define a testable hypothesis based on threat intelligence or ATT&CK gap analysis.
  2. Identify Data Sources: Determine which logs and telemetry are needed to validate or refute the hypothesis.
  3. Execute Queries: Run detection queries against SIEM and EDR platforms to collect relevant events.
  4. Analyze Results: Examine query results for anomalies, correlating across multiple data sources.
  5. Validate Findings: Distinguish true positives from false positives through contextual analysis.
  6. Correlate Activity: Link findings to broader attack chains and threat actor TTPs.
  7. Document and Report: Record findings, update detection rules, and recommend response actions.

FAQ

What is 'spearphishing'?

It's a type of fake email attack that looks like it's from a trusted source, but it's sent to trick a specific person or group, usually to steal information or install malware.

What systems are needed?

You need a system to monitor your computers (EDR), a system to collect and analyze logs (SIEM), and access to recent threat intelligence.

What are 'indicators'?

Indicators are clues or signs that suggest an attack might have happened or is in progress, like a suspicious link or an unusual file.
