paperclip-converting-plans-to-tasks

Lets your agent decide if Paperclip work needs delegation. It connects justified tasks with owners and dependencies when turning a plan into work.

What it does

This tool helps turn a work plan into smaller, manageable tasks. It decides which parts of the plan need to be delegated to others and defines the dependencies between them.

When to use it

  • ✓When you have an approved plan and need to distribute it for execution.
  • ✓When breaking down a large project into smaller parts for different team members.
  • ✓To ensure tasks are assigned correctly and dependencies are clear.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Turn this marketing plan into tasks for the team, defining who is responsible for each part and what needs to be done before another task can start.”

How it works

The tool analyzes the plan and identifies steps that can be done by others or that depend on other tasks. It then creates these separate tasks, assigning owners and establishing the necessary connections.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

Plans to tasks

Keep small, cohesive work on its current ordinary task with one end-to-end owner. A plan's steps, files, and phases do not each need a task.

Create a separate task only for a useful boundary: another owner or permission, independent parallel output, a real prerequisite, independent review, or substantial follow-up that needs its own lifecycle. Check the available agents before assigning. Give each delegate enough context and a clear deliverable to work independently.

Set real dependencies through blockedByIssueIds (or the native dependency tool). Parent/child nesting and prose do not delay execution. Independent work can start now; dependent work must wait for its prerequisite. Verify the saved relationships.

Reviewers publish findings on their own review task and complete it, including an adverse verdict. Make its description self-contained. Connect the verdict to the owner who must act on it; do not require writes to the parent.

Honor existing authorization and approval boundaries. Use Paperclip's planning mechanics when approval is required; decomposition does not create new approval gates.

FAQ

Do I need to create a task for every step of the plan?

No, create a separate task only when it's useful, such as for another owner, an independent output, a real prerequisite, a review, or significant follow-up.

How are dependencies set?

Dependencies are set using a 'blocked by' system so that one task can only start after another is completed.

What if a task requires review?

Reviewers can publish their findings on their own review task and connect it to the owner, without needing to write to the parent task.
