webgl-distortion-grain

Lets your agent create galleries where images distort and ripple with movement. It's useful for adding a dynamic and artistic effect to visual presentations.

What it does

This code creates a vertical image gallery that moves and ripples as you scroll or move your mouse. It also adds a film grain effect, similar to old cameras.

When to use it

  • ✓To create a website with a modern and interactive look.
  • ✓To display an image portfolio dynamically.
  • ✓To add a special effect to a web page.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Create an image gallery with a ripple and film grain effect.”

How to use

The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.

Ready-to-paste message

How it works

It uses a technology called WebGL to draw images on the screen, making them bend smoothly based on your scrolling. Special code (simplex noise) creates the ripples when the mouse hovers over them.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

npx skills add nexu-io/open-design --skill webgl-distortion-grain

Or download just the file:

curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nexu-io/open-design/main/plugins/_official/examples/webgl-distortion-grain/SKILL.md -o SKILL.md

Distortion & Grain

Produce a single self-contained index.html — A vertical gallery (Three.js) where planes bend with scroll velocity, ripple under the cursor via simplex noise, and carry a film grain.

Why this is a powered artifact

OpenDesign detects getContext('webgl2') / heavy WebGL and renders this file in powered preview (a cross-origin-isolated iframe). The full GPU + scroll pipeline runs; no opaque-sandbox workarounds are needed.

FAQ

What is WebGL?

It's a technology that allows websites to display 3D graphics and complex visual effects directly in the browser, using your computer's graphics card.

What is 'simplex noise'?

It's a mathematical algorithm that generates smooth, organic noise patterns, used here to create the ripple effect on the image.

Can I use my own images?

Yes, as long as they are copyright-free images or you have permission to use them.
