azure-devops

Has your agent set up and manage development pipelines in Azure DevOps. It helps automate the building and delivery of software.

What it does

This tool helps set up the automatic build, test, and deployment process for software in Azure DevOps. It allows you to define how code will be compiled, tested, and sent to servers.

When to use it

  • ✓When starting a new project and wanting to automate deliveries.
  • ✓When you need to configure how the software will be tested after each change.
  • ✓To define when and how the software will be released to users.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Set up a pipeline to build and deploy my web application to Azure.”

How to use

The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.

Skill link

Ready-to-paste message

Use this skill to help me: https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/blob/main/plugins/agentic-awesome-skills-claude/skills/azure-devops/SKILL.md Read the SKILL.md file at that link and follow its instructions for my task.
How it works

You write a configuration file (YAML) that describes the steps. The AI reads this file and configures Azure DevOps to follow these instructions automatically.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill azure-devops

Or download just the file:

curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/main/plugins/agentic-awesome-skills-claude/skills/azure-devops/SKILL.md -o SKILL.md

Azure DevOps Pipelines

Build, test, and deploy applications using Azure Pipelines with YAML or classic editor.

When to Use This Skill

Use this skill when:

  • Creating CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps
  • Configuring build and release stages
  • Managing Azure DevOps service connections
  • Deploying to Azure or other cloud platforms
  • Setting up multi-stage YAML pipelines

Prerequisites

  • Azure DevOps organization and project
  • Service connections for target environments
  • Basic YAML understanding
  • Azure subscription (for Azure deployments)

YAML Pipeline Structure

Create azure-pipelines.yml in repository root:

trigger:
  branches:
    include:
      - main
      - develop
  paths:
    include:
      - src/*

pool:
  vmImage: 'ubuntu-latest'

variables:
  buildConfiguration: 'Release'
  nodeVersion: '20.x'

stages:
  - stage: Build
    jobs:
      - job: BuildJob
        steps:
          - task: NodeTool@0
            inputs:
              versionSpec: $(nodeVersion)
          - script: |
              npm ci
              npm run build
            displayName: 'Build application'
          - publish: $(Build.ArtifactStagingDirectory)
            artifact: drop

  - stage: Deploy
    dependsOn: Build
    condition: and(succeeded(), eq(variables['Build.SourceBranch'], 'refs/heads/main'))
    jobs:
      - deployment: DeployWeb
        environment: 'production'
        strategy:
          runOnce:
            deploy:
              steps:
                - script: echo Deploying to production

FAQ

What is CI/CD?

CI/CD stands for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. It's a method to automate the building, testing, and deployment of software, making the process faster and more reliable.

What is a pipeline?

A pipeline is a sequence of automated steps that Azure DevOps follows to build, test, and deploy your code. It's like an assembly line for your software.

Do I need to know how to code to use this?

Basic knowledge of YAML, which is a configuration language, is helpful. The AI can assist in generating parts of the code, but understanding the basics makes it easier.
