azure-resource-manager-mysql-dotnet

Helps your agent manage MySQL databases in Azure. It allows for creating, configuring, and maintaining database servers.

What it does

This code helps manage MySQL database servers in Azure. You can use it to create a server, add a database, set up security rules, and tweak settings.

When to use it

  • ✓Creating a new MySQL server in Azure.
  • ✓Adding a new database to an existing server.
  • ✓Configuring who can access your MySQL server.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Create a MySQL server named 'my-server' in the 'eastus' region with the user 'admin' and password 'password123'.”

How to use

The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.

Ready-to-paste message

Use this skill to help me: https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/blob/main/plugins/agentic-awesome-skills-claude/skills/azure-resource-manager-mysql-dotnet/SKILL.md Read the SKILL.md file at that link and follow its instructions for my task.
How it works

It uses an official Microsoft toolkit (SDK) to talk to Azure. You provide details like server name, location, and settings, and the toolkit handles the creation and management.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill azure-resource-manager-mysql-dotnet

Or download just the file:

Azure.ResourceManager.MySql (.NET)

Azure Resource Manager SDK for managing MySQL Flexible Server deployments.

Installation

dotnet add package Azure.ResourceManager.MySql
dotnet add package Azure.Identity

Current Version: v1.2.0 (GA)
API Version: 2023-12-30

Note: This skill focuses on MySQL Flexible Server. Single Server is deprecated and scheduled for retirement.

Environment Variables

AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID=<your-subscription-id>
AZURE_RESOURCE_GROUP=<your-resource-group>
AZURE_MYSQL_SERVER_NAME=<your-mysql-server>

Authentication

using Azure.Identity;
using Azure.ResourceManager;
using Azure.ResourceManager.MySql;
using Azure.ResourceManager.MySql.FlexibleServers;

ArmClient client = new ArmClient(new DefaultAzureCredential());

Resource Hierarchy

        └── MySqlFlexibleServerAadAdministrator # Entra ID admin

Core Workflows

1. Create MySQL Flexible Server

using System;
using Azure.ResourceManager.MySql.FlexibleServers;
using Azure.ResourceManager.MySql.FlexibleServers.Models;

ResourceGroupResource resourceGroup = await client
    .GetDefaultSubscriptionAsync()
    .Result
    .GetResourceGroupAsync("my-resource-group");

MySqlFlexibleServerCollection servers = resourceGroup.GetMySqlFlexibleServers();

MySqlFlexibleServerData data = new MySqlFlexibleServerData(AzureLocation.EastUS)
{
    Sku = new MySqlFlexibleServerSku("Standard_D2ds_v4", MySqlFlexibleServerSkuTier.GeneralPurpose),
    AdministratorLogin = "mysqladmin",
    AdministratorLoginPassword = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("MYSQL_ADMIN_PASSWORD") ?? throw new InvalidOperationException("MYSQL_ADMIN_PASSWORD is required"),
    Version = MySqlFlexibleServerVersion.Ver8_0_21,
    Storage = new MySqlFlexibleServerStorage
    {
        StorageSizeInGB = 128,
        AutoGrow = MySqlFlexibleServerEnableStatusEnum.Enabled,
        Iops = 3000
    },
    Backup = new MySqlFlexibleServerBackupProperties
    {
        BackupRetentionDays = 7,
        GeoRedundantBackup = MySqlFlexibleServerEnableStatusEnum.Disabled
    },
    HighAvailability = new MySqlFlexibleServerHighAvailability
    {
        Mode = MySqlFlexibleServerHighAvailabilityMode.ZoneRedundant,
        StandbyAvailabilityZone = "2"
    },
    AvailabilityZone = "1"
};

ArmOperation<MySqlFlexibleServerResource> operation = await servers
    .CreateOrUpdateAsync(WaitUntil.Completed, "my-mysql-server", data);

MySqlFlexibleServerResource server = operation.Value;
Console.WriteLine($"Server created: {server.Data.FullyQualifiedDomainName}");

2. Create Database

MySqlFlexibleServerResource server = await resourceGroup
    .GetMySqlFlexibleServerAsync("my-mysql-server");

MySqlFlexibleServerDatabaseCollection databases = server.GetMySqlFlexibleServerDatabases();

MySqlFlexibleServerDatabaseData dbData = new MySqlFlexibleServerDatabaseData
{
    Charset = "utf8mb4",
    Collation = "utf8mb4_unicode_ci"
};

ArmOperation<MySqlFlexibleServerDatabaseResource> operation = await databases
    .CreateOrUpdateAsync(WaitUntil.Completed, "myappdb", dbData);

MySqlFlexibleServerDatabaseResource database = operation.Value;
Console.WriteLine($"Database created: {database.Data.Name}");

3. Configure Firewall Rules

MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleCollection firewallRules = server.GetMySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRules();

// Allow specific IP range
MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleData ruleData = new MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleData
{
    StartIPAddress = System.Net.IPAddress.Parse("10.0.0.1"),
    EndIPAddress = System.Net.IPAddress.Parse("10.0.0.255")
};

ArmOperation<MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleResource> operation = await firewallRules
    .CreateOrUpdateAsync(WaitUntil.Completed, "allow-internal", ruleData);

// Allow Azure services
MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleData azureServicesRule = new MySqlFlexibleServerFirewallRuleData
{
    StartIPAddress = System.Net.IPAddress.Parse("0.0.0.0"),

FAQ

What is a 'flexible server'?

It's a type of MySQL server in Azure that gives you more flexibility and control over its setup and resources.

What are 'firewall rules'?

These are security settings that control which IP addresses can connect to your MySQL server, helping to protect it from unauthorized access.

Can I manage existing databases?

This code primarily focuses on initial creation and configuration. For detailed management of existing databases, you might need other tools or commands.
