concise-planning

Lets your agent create detailed action plans for coding tasks. It generates clear, easy-to-follow checklists.

What it does

This tool creates a step-by-step plan for coding tasks. It organizes the work into a simple, straightforward checklist so you know exactly what to do.

When to use it

  • ✓When you need a roadmap for a coding project.
  • ✓If you're unsure where to start a programming task.
  • ✓To break down a large job into smaller, manageable parts.

Example of what to ask your AI

“Help me plan how to build a login button for a website.”

Ready-to-paste message

Use this skill to help me: https://github.com/sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills/blob/main/plugins/agentic-awesome-skills-claude/skills/concise-planning/SKILL.md Read the SKILL.md file at that link and follow its instructions for my task.
How it works

The AI reads information about the task, asks questions if needed, and then creates a list of clear steps, starting with verbs like 'Create' or 'Test'.

Installation

Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.

In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

Concise Planning

Goal

Turn a user request into a single, actionable plan with atomic steps.

Workflow

1. Scan Context

  • Read README.md, docs, and relevant code files.
  • Identify constraints (language, frameworks, tests).

2. Minimal Interaction

  • Ask at most 1–2 questions and only if truly blocking.
  • Make reasonable assumptions for non-blocking unknowns.

3. Generate Plan

Use the following structure:

  • Approach: 1-3 sentences on what and why.
  • Scope: Bullet points for "In" and "Out".
  • Action Items: A list sized to the actual task, with atomic, ordered actions (Verb-first).
  • Validation: At least one item for testing.

- [ ] <Step 5: Rollout/Commit>

## Open Questions

Checklist Guidelines

  • Atomic: Each step should be a single logical unit of work.
  • Verb-first: "Add...", "Refactor...", "Verify...".
  • Concrete: Name specific files or modules when possible.

When to Use

Use when the user asks for a coding plan and the outcome, scope, dependencies and verification should become a short ordered checklist.

Limitations

  • Use this skill only when the task clearly matches the scope described above.
  • Do not treat the output as a substitute for environment-specific validation, testing, or expert review.
  • Stop and ask for clarification if required inputs, permissions, safety boundaries, or success criteria are missing.
FAQ

What does 'atomic' mean?

It means each step in the list is a single, small, well-defined task.

Will the AI write the code for me?

No, the AI creates the plan, but you will still need to write the code.

What if information is missing?

The AI will ask for more details to ensure the plan is useful.
