docker-compose
Teaches your AI agent to ship projects and manage infrastructure.
What it does
Docker Compose helps manage multiple programs (services) that need to run together. It uses a text file to describe all these programs and how they should connect, making it easier to run complex applications.
When to use it
- ✓When you have several programs that need to work together (e.g., a website with a database).
- ✓To create a testing environment that's identical to production.
- ✓To ensure everyone on the team uses the same configurations.
Example of what to ask your AI
“Set up an environment with a website and a database using Docker Compose.”

How to use
The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.
Skill link
Ready-to-paste message
How it works
You write a file named 'docker-compose.yml' describing each program (service), the image it uses, the ports it needs, and how it connects to other programs. Then, a simple command starts everything.
Installation
Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.
In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

Docker Compose
Orchestrate multi-container applications with declarative YAML configuration.
When to Use This Skill
Use this skill when:
- Running multi-container applications locally
- Setting up development environments
- Defining service dependencies and networking
- Managing application stacks with multiple services
- Creating reproducible development setups
Execution Scope
Confirm the selected Docker context and project before any operation. Build instructions execute contributed commands; inspect the Dockerfile, build context, scripts and downloaded dependencies first. Image publication, shared-container stops and volume deletion need authorization for the exact target. Do not expose environment values, image history or logs containing credentials. These examples are independent fragments with project-specific assets, not a complete deployment.
Prerequisites
- Docker Engine with Compose plugin (v2)
- Basic Docker knowledge
- YAML syntax understanding

FAQ
What are 'services' in Docker Compose?
Services are the different programs or parts of your application that need to run together, like a web server, a database, or a cache.
What is a 'volume'?
A volume is a space where your application's important data is stored, even if the program is restarted or removed. It's like a hard drive for your programs.
Can I use Docker Compose to run my application on the internet?
Docker Compose is great for running applications locally or on a server you manage. For running on the internet in a scalable way, other tools might be more suitable, but Compose is an excellent starting point.
