feature-flags
Implements feature flags to release new functionalities gradually. Helps control feature releases and reduce risks in new updates.
What it does
Feature flags are like switches to turn parts of an application on or off. They let you show new features to only some users or at specific times, without changing the main code.
When to use it
- ✓Launching a new feature to a small group of users first.
- ✓Testing two versions of a feature to see which performs better.
- ✓Quickly disabling a feature that is causing problems.
Example of what to ask your AI
“Enable the new checkout feature for premium users.”

How to use
The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.

Ready-to-paste message
How it works
You set up a feature flag service and, in your code, check if the flag is active for the current user. If it is, the new code runs; otherwise, the old code is used.
Installation
Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.
In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:
npx skills add sickn33/agentic-awesome-skills --skill feature-flagsOr download just the file:

Feature Flags
Control feature releases and enable progressive rollout with feature flag systems.
Prerequisites
- Application code access
- Feature flag service or self-hosted solution
- Basic understanding of deployment patterns
Feature Flag Types
| Type | Purpose | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Release | Control feature visibility | New checkout flow |
| Experiment | A/B testing | Button color test |
| Ops | Runtime configuration | Rate limiting |
| Permission | User access control | Premium features |
| Kill Switch | Emergency disable | Third-party integration |

SDK Setup (Node.js)
const LaunchDarkly = require('launchdarkly-node-server-sdk');
const client = LaunchDarkly.init(process.env.LAUNCHDARKLY_SDK_KEY);
await client.waitForInitialization();
// Evaluate flag
const user = {
key: 'user-123',
email: 'user@example.com',
custom: {
plan: 'premium',
company: 'acme'
}
};
const showNewFeature = await client.variation('new-checkout', user, false);
if (showNewFeature) {
// New feature code
} else {
// Existing code
}
React SDK
import { withLDProvider, useFlags, useLDClient } from 'launchdarkly-react-client-sdk';
// Provider setup
export default withLDProvider({
clientSideID: 'your-client-side-id',
user: {
key: 'user-123',
email: 'user@example.com'
}
})(App);
// Using flags in component
function FeatureComponent() {
const { newCheckout, experimentVariant } = useFlags();
const ldClient = useLDClient();
// Track events
const handleClick = () => {
ldClient.track('checkout-started');
};
if (newCheckout) {
return <NewCheckout onClick={handleClick} />;
}
return <OldCheckout onClick={handleClick} />;

FAQ
What is a 'progressive rollout'?
It's releasing a new feature gradually, starting with a few users and increasing over time, to minimize risks.
Can I use flags to turn off features?
Yes, they act as a 'kill switch' for emergency disabling of features.
Do I need to be an experienced programmer to use this?
A basic understanding of how code works is helpful, but the flag service simplifies the control process.
