nx-workspace-patterns
Sets up and optimizes projects using Nx monorepo. It's useful when starting projects, defining boundaries, or improving build caching.
What it does
This tool helps organize and optimize large software projects using a structure called Nx monorepo. It defines how different parts of your code (applications and libraries) relate to each other and how they are built and tested efficiently.
When to use it
- ✓When starting a new Nx project.
- ✓When defining boundaries between different code parts.
- ✓When optimizing builds and tests to save time.
Example of what to ask your AI
“How do I configure my Nx project so that 'ui' libraries can only depend on other 'ui' or 'util' libraries?”

How to use
The easiest way: copy the message below and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any AI. It reads the skill and follows the instructions.

How it works
It works by setting clear rules on how your code components can depend on each other. This ensures that changes in one part don't unexpectedly affect other parts, and allows Nx to optimize what needs to be rebuilt or tested.
Installation
Easiest way: copy the skill link and paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor asking it to follow the instructions.
In the terminal (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor), in your project folder:

Nx Workspace Patterns
Production patterns for Nx monorepo management.
Do not use this skill when
- The task is unrelated to nx workspace patterns
- You need a different domain or tool outside this scope
Instructions
- Clarify goals, constraints, and required inputs.
- Apply relevant best practices and validate outcomes.
- Provide actionable steps and verification.
Use this skill when
- Setting up new Nx workspaces
- Configuring project boundaries
- Optimizing CI with affected commands
- Implementing remote caching
- Managing dependencies between projects
- Migrating to Nx

FAQ
What is a 'monorepo'?
It's a way to organize a large project where all the code (multiple applications and shared libraries) resides in a single repository, but with structure and rules to keep it organized.
What are 'apps' and 'libs'?
'Apps' are the final applications that users interact with (like a website or a mobile app). 'Libs' are reusable code libraries that apps can use (like UI components or utility functions).
What does 'optimize build caching' mean?
It means Nx remembers the results of previous builds and tests. If nothing has changed, it reuses those results instead of redoing everything, which significantly speeds up the process.
